High-conflict divorce can lead to detailed divorce orders

Having to deal with all the contention of a high-conflict divorce can have a negative impact on your mental health. Not only do you have to become familiar with the laws that apply to your case, you also need to look at how your emotions might affect the decisions that you make. This volatile situation can also harm your children.

One of the most difficult aspects of a high-conflict divorce is coming to the realization that you might not have a say in what happens with the divorce. You won't be able to work out the terms of property division or child custody. Instead, the court will make those decisions because you and your ex aren't able to compromise.

When child custody is a factor in the divorce, the court order must be concise and leave as little room as possible for misunderstandings. The children must not have to witness their parents battling against each other. During the child custody exchanges, both parents must have the goal of making things as calm for the kids as possible. To address this, the court order might require the exchange to happen at a neutral place, so neither parent has home field advantage.

Throughout the litigation process, you must remember that practical decisions are a priority. It is easy to fall into the habit of letting emotions rule; however, this can lead you to make choices that aren't in your best interests.

Learning how the applicable laws impact your case is one of the best ways that you can protect your interests if you are in the midst of a high-conflict divorce.
